New sulfur carrier ship built

sulfur carrier ship
Shin Kurushima Dockyard Co. Ltd. has completed the Hestiana, a molten sulfur carrier of 3,599DWT, for Fukurokuju Maritima S. A. reported MarNews. The vessel has a special construction for the specific purpose of molten sulfur transport. Molten sulfur, which is used as a material to produce fertilizers, is now transported from Japan or Korea to China.
The temperature of the molten sulfur should be maintained at 135 - 145oC. If the temperature decreases below 120 oC or increases over 154 oC, the molten sulfur rapidly becomes highly viscous. Thus thermal control is important for transport of the material. An independent tank system is employed for keeping the cargo at high temperature. Cargo ship tanks are made of steel with heat insulation of glass wool, which covers the tank. Inside the tank, heating coils are installed to pass steam and maintain the required temperature. Sulfur has low flammable danger or toxicity to humans. However, molten sulfur contains impurities of hydrogen sulfide and sulfur dioxide that are highly toxic. Hydrogen sulfide is very flammable and may cause an explosion.
Accumulation of hydrogen sulfide inside the cargo tank must be avoided. Therefore, vapor containing hydrogen sulfide from the cargo is forcibly ventilated from the air phase of the cargo inside the cargo tank with fans which send fresh air inside. The fresh air is previously heated through the heaters to not cool the cargo. If the vent post line is blocked by the cargo, it may cause a hazard. So the vent line and vent valves are provided with heat tracers to prevent adhesion of the cargo to the vent. The cargo pumps used for cargo handling are the deep well and electric motor driven type.
The ship is rofitable and flexible in operations for the maritime transport companies. The vessel has overall length of 95.02 meters and length between perpendiculars of 89.95 meters. The beam of the ship is 14 meters and the depth is 7.60 meters. The ship has draft of 5.61 meters, while fully loaded. The deadweight of the vessel is 3,599 metric tons and the gross tonnage is 2,849 gross tons.

The double hull construction similar to an ore carrier is adopted to provide reater hull strength than the onventional ship, eventually increasing ship safety against external damage. This also eases maintenance of the cargo holds, and even if the outer shell is damaged by external force, the cargo ore is secured against quality
damage and leakage. Prior to the new international rules, the vessel employs fully double hull construction for the fuel tank to prevent fuel leaking outboard for marine pollution protection. The vessel has four box-shaped cargo holds with wide hatches and three 30t deck cranes between the hatches. With these arrangements, cargo-handling efficiency is increased.
Principal particulars are: Length overal: 161.00 meters, Length between perpendiculars 154.50 meters, Breadth: 26.00 meters, Depth: 14.00 meters and Draught: 9.00 meters. The deadweight of the ship is 28,401 metric tons and gross tonnage is 16,992 GT.

Panamax bulk carrier Golden Spring

Sanoyas Hishino Meisho Corp. has completed the 83,730 DWT Panamax bulk carrier, GOLDEN SPRING for Golden Spring Maritime S.A. at the Mizushima Works and Shipyard. Sanoyas has previously constructed a total of 70 vessels of 70,000 to 75,000 DWT class. This is the 2nd vessel of a series of the SANOYAS newly developed 83,000DWT type, featuring the largest deadweight and cargo hold capacity for PANAMAX bulk carriers. For improvement of propulsion efficiency, the vessel is equipped with a
low-speed & long-stroke main engine combined with a high-efficiency propeller and SANOYAS developed energy saving device called “STF” (Sanoyas-Tandem-Fin (patent: max. 6% energy saving) on the stern shell. For efficient cargo handling, cargo hatches are widened as much as possible. Dedicated fresh water tanks are provided for storing hold washing water generated by a large capacity type fresh water generator. In addition, a special fuel oil heating system is applied for fuel oil storage tanks in order to avoid cargo damage by overheating. Considering protection of the environment, various countermeasures such as fuel oil tanks of double hull structures, light color and tar-free coating for ballast tanks, holding tank for accommodation discharges and dirty hold bilge, and independent bilge segregation system for engine room, are incorporated. The measurements of the bulk carrier are: overal length 229.00 meters, length between perpandiculars 223.00 meters, beam 32.24 meters, depth 20.20 meters and draft 14.555 meters. The deadweight of Golden Spring oil tanker is 83,730 metric tons and gross tonnage is 44,146 GT. The cargo hold capacity of the Panamax bulk carrier is 96,152 cubic meters. And so large vessel needs of strong and reliable main engine, which will gives enough power in low fuel consumption. This main engine is MAN B&W 6S60MC-C, which gives speed of 14 knots to the ship.

Unicorn Ocean one large Panamax bulk carrier

Sanoyas Hishino Meisho Corp. has completed the 78,888DWT Panamax bulk carrier, UNICORN OCEAN, for Takanawa Line Inc. of Panama at the Mizushima Works and Shipyard.
This ship is the third of the new Sanoyas Panamax series of the 78,000DWT class. This new series has been developed based on the preceding series of 70,000 and 75,000 classes, which include over 70 vessels in total. The new series is one size larger than the predecessors in the deadweight and cargo hold capacity, which has been achieved by elongating the length between perpendiculars without changing the overall length and beam.
The ship has greatly been improved in both energy saving and cargo handling efficiency with sophisticated design. In addition, various systems are applied to the ship for environment ecology. The energy consumption has been improved using the SANOYAS energy- saving device called STF (Sanoyas- Tandem-Fin: maximum 6% energy
saving and excellent cost performance with simple structure), which is fixed on the stern shell, together with a low-speed and large-diameter propeller.
The cargo-handling efficiency has increased with arrangement of the same hatch width for the cargo holds from No. 1 to No. 7 as well as wider hatch openings than the previous vessels. Dedicated fresh water tanks are provided to store hold-washing water from a large-capacity fresh water generator. A special fuel oil heating system
is adopted for fuel oil storage tanks to avoid cargo damage by overheating. Considering protection of environment, various countermeasures such as fuel oil tanks of double hull structures, light color and tar-free coating for ballast tanks, holding tank for accommodation gray water and dirty hold bilge, and independent bilge segregation system for engine room, are incorporated.

IHI Marine United Inc. delivered the Azzura, a 52,OOODWT Handymax size bulk carrier, to Cello Inc. on June 30, 2004 at the Yokohama Shipyard. The ship Azzura has a length of 189.96 meters, beam of 32.20 meters and draught of 17.30 meters. While fully loaded the vessel has a draft of 12.30 meters. The gross tonnage of this bulk carrier is 29,407 metric tons. The Azzura is the first of a series of Future-52 type bulk carriers developed by IHIMU. The Azzura has the optimum dimensions to qualify for worldwide trade, and well-appointed fittings for easy operation and maintenance. The five cargo holds have been strengthened for heavy cargo with holds Nos. 2 and 4 empty, and wide weathertight folding type hatch covers are fitted. Four deck cranes of 30t capacity are provided, and the deck cranes can be fitted with electro-hydraulic grabs as an option. The hold access complies with AWWF requirements.
Since 1967, IHIMU has delivered over 380 standardized multi-purpose cargo vessels, the well known F-series. The Freedom series, the first of the F-series, was highly evaluated for its excellent operating economy and reliability, and such high performance and evaluation were followed by its successors, the Fortune, Freedom Mark n, Friendship and Future series. The Future-52 was developed as a successor to the superior features of the well established Future series. The Future series has been particularly well evaluated for its operating efficiency from domestic and overseas owners, and the Future-52 retains such good operating efficiency with the maximum deadweight in the Handymax size Future series.
But so large vessel needs a good engine, which should decrease the fuel consumption and CO2 emissions. That is why the ship-builder installed an engine DU-Sulzer 6RTA48TB with full power of 6,885kW at lll.Srpm, which can give to the vessel cruising speed of 14.7 knots and maximum speed of 15.9 knots.
