New Camellia is the new ferry of NYK LIne

Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd. (MHI) has completed the 19,961GT car/passenger ferry, New Camellia (HN: 1104), for NYK Line at its Shimonoseki Shipyard. The ferry is operated by Camellia Line and is now plying between Hakata, Japan and Pusan, Korea, with a schedule of six voyages a week. The ferry was built to replace the previous ferry, Camellia (15,439GT). The New Camellia can navigate at a speed of 23.5 knots, 2.5 knots faster than the predecessor, and shortens the voyage by six hours between two cities. This has also improved transport of fresh vegetables and fish, and refrigerated freight. The increase in the number of crossings a week from three to six has improved the convenience to shippers. Moreover, the larger ship size increases container loading capacity from 170TEUs to 220TEUs. The ferry can transport vehicles (trucks), special cargoes, and heavy cargoes based on the RO/RO method, which could not be transported by conventional ships on the route. Passengers’ cars can also be carried. The measurements of the new ferry are interesting, but not so big. The overall length is 170.0 meters and the beam is 24.00 meters. The draft of New Camelia is 6.0 meters, which is making the deadweight of the ship 4,642 tetric tons, which gross tonnage of 19,961t.

Pyxis Leader car carrier

Pyxis Leader is one car carrier built by Toyohashi Shipbuilding Co., Ltd. The Pyxis Leader is designed to carry 5,427 units based on the standard car (6,405 units based on RT43L), trucks, complete knock down (CKD) kits and containers. This is the second of the series of car carriers being built continuously at the shipyard at Toyohashi. The vessel has twelve car decks with garage deck including two liftable decks. Car holds above the freeboard deck have two fire compartments. The main engine is a low-speed, long-stroke diesel engine Kobe Diesel-Mitsubishi 8UEC60LSn.The high performance propeller saves fuel oil consumption.
The vessel has a length of 199.94 meters, beam of 32.6 meters and draft of 10.30 meters, while the ship is fully loaded. The draught of the vessel is 34.8 meters and the free board is pretty large, like all car carriers. The main engine of the vessel is Kobe Diesel-Mitsubishi SUECeOLSH with full power of 15,540 kW (21,129ps) at 104 rpm. The maximum speed of the vessel is 20 knots.
